The Dignitary Khalid Kanoo Announces the Launch of the Work of the Tenth Season of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award
H.E. the Dignitary Khalid Mohamed Kanoo, the Chairman of The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group of Companies and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award, expressed his happiness at the launch of the work of the Tenth Season of the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award and its competitions, in which the Award will complete its twentieth year of its establishment (1998-2018), including the cultural, scientific, economic and social fields.

The Dignitary Khalid Mohamed Kanoo confirmed that the Award began as a Bahraini award, then moved to cover the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and until today it became an Arab award that provides support and encouragement to all innovators and thinkers from the people of the Arab world.

This Award was established by the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Family as a contribution to the service of knowledge, scientists and thinkers, the foundations of which were established by the late founder the Dignitary Ahmed Ben Ali Kanoo. It has become one of the distinguished Arab awards throughout its cultural journey, with a constellation of thinkers and community figures participating in its establishment, such as: Mr Abdulaziz Jassim Kanoo, who was appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees until 2016, and Dr Abdul Latif Jassim Kanoo, Dr Mohammed Jasim Alghatam, Dr Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, Dr Saeed bin Attia Abu A’ali, Dr Ibrahim Jamal AlHashemi, the late Yusuf Ahmed Kanoo, Mr Mishal Hamed Kanoo, and Professor Mubarak Saad Al Atwi.

Their giving and contributions were distinctive and wonderful, covering many scientific, literary, cultural, medical, and economic fields.

Many thinkers and creators from the Arab world participated in presenting specialized studies and diverse contributions covering various aspects of fields and topics. The total number of winners of the Award over the past years, from the First Season in 2001 until the Ninth Season in 2017, was (37) male and female winners from various Arab countries, and the number of participants in these ten Seasons was: (810) participants from 20 Arab countries.

The Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Award also honoured many writers and distinguished figures from the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain for their distinguished and qualitative achievements and contributions.

The Award held research seminars on many topics and issues of concern to society, where the issue of scientific research was one of the most important seminars during the Award path, and most of the national universities and their senior officials participated in it.

The Board of Trustees also approved the issuance of a cultural magazine specialized in the field of thought, scientific and economic studies, which is still issued on a quarterly basis at a developed scientific level, in which a constellation of writers and thinkers from the people of the Arab world participate, numbering (40) contributing men of letters and writers in various specializations. Its editor-in-chief is Mr Khalid Mohamed Kanoo, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the founding member of the Award.

With the beginning of the restructuring of the new Board and after the death of the Dignitary Abdulaziz Jassim Kanoo, may Allah have mercy on him, the Dignitary Khalid Mohamed Kanoo, head of the group, was chosen as chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The current Board includes a constellation of academic and cultural leaders, namely: His Excellency Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohali, President of the Arabian Gulf University, His Excellency Professor Hisham bin Mohammed Al Jowder, Dr Nadhem Saleh Al-Saleh, Dr Ibrahim Jamal AlHashemi, Mr Ali Abdulaziz Kanoo, Mrs Mona Mubarak Kanoo, and Mr Mubarak Saad Al Atwi, the Secretary-General.

After receiving it, he put forward a new vision that includes many opinions, programs and directives to increase the effectiveness of the Award and its spread and diversify its fields and topics, as an attempt to give larger spaces and participations at the local, Gulf and Arab levels to competitions that serve thought, humanity and society, and further contribute to and strengthen Arab national and regional capabilities, support youth initiatives and creativity, and support the plans drawn up by the government to highlight these specifications and raise their efficiency and achievements.

The last (Ninth) Season witnessed a qualitative shift in the level of fields and competitions, and the Board of Trustees formed a development and follow-up committee to increase qualitative effectiveness and select new projects that keep pace with the changes on the national and cultural scene.

He confirmed that the topics and fields of the Tenth Season (2018-2019), which began to be announced yesterday, include the following fields:

  • Economies: Renewable Energy
  • Literature: Telling Humanitarian Issues
  • University Scientific Research: Scientific Research (University of Bahrain)
  • Fine Arts: (Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics)

The last date for receiving the participations is 31 August, 2019.

He wished the competitors and participants all the best of luck, and at the conclusion of his statement, he extended his thanks and appreciation to all the members of the Board of Trustees for their efforts and valuable contributions to advance and develop the work and programs of this national Award and to confirm the Private Sector’s contribution to the support of cultural and scientific projects based on the responsibility of the Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Family in order to serve knowledge and encourage the thinkers in this dear country.
